vidbrowser.app · local-first video capture

Download video from the sites you already log in to.

VidBrowser opens the page in your own logged-in browser session, captures the video it loads, and saves it to disk. Direct files, HLS, DASH, and a yt-dlp fallback — session data never leaves your device.

How it works

Four steps, run entirely on your machine. The workbench does the heavy lifting — you just paste, pick, and save.

Paste. Analyze. Download.

No extensions, no per-site plugins. If your browser can play it logged in, VidBrowser can save it — with your session, on your disk.

  1. 01

    Pick a URL

Enter the page address in the command bar. The target browser opens it in its own window, separate from your everyday browser.

  2. 02

    Reuse your browser session

Copy cookies and storage from a Chrome, Edge, or Firefox profile into a working profile, or sign in manually in the target browser. The page opens with the logins you already have.

  3. 03

    Capture the media

Analyze the page to list every video resource it loads: direct files, HLS playlists, DASH manifests, and player segments. Use the yt-dlp pass for extractor-driven sites.

  4. 04

    Download to disk

Direct HTTP saves as it is served. FFmpeg probes and remuxes HLS and DASH into MP4 or MKV. The queue tracks progress, speed, and bytes until the file lands in your download folder.

Why VidBrowser

Built around how video actually reaches a browser — and who it belongs to: you.

Any website

The target browser renders the real page, so detection works wherever a browser can play the video. No per-site plugins.

Your local browser session

Working profiles copy the logins your browser already holds. If a copy cannot complete, sign in once in the target browser and keep going.

Local-only privacy

Cookies, tokens, watch history, and downloads stay on this device. The app does not upload them anywhere.

HLS, DASH, yt-dlp, FFmpeg

Manifest streams are probed and merged with FFmpeg. yt-dlp covers extractor sites. Direct files download as they are served.

“Finally — a downloader that just uses my own logged-in Chrome. No more expired-cookie dance.”

— course hoarder · macOS

“Pasted an X link, got one clean 1080p card with cover and duration. Download merged audio automatically.”

“The task list with live progress + finished-only preview is exactly how it should work.”

🔒 Session data never leaves the device.

Browser profiles are read locally and copied into a separate work profile on disk. Cookie values are used only to open the pages you ask for.

The app does not send your login state, viewing history, or downloads to a server. Migration results record status and warnings only, never secrets.
